Sperm whale tooth engraved with inscription
KINCM:2005.3760, Hull Maritime Museum

This sperm whale tooth is engraved with the inscription ‘Cast On Shore at Tunstall in Holderness, 1825', and 'Presented by Major R.C. Chichester-Constable’. Derived from the Burton Constable whale, the most famous whale in Yorkshire history, the tooth was preserved in its natural state, as a souvenir of the stranding.
